Why Is Social Media Difficult To Monetise?
Social media can be difficult to monetize, this is the reason why — find out the answers to the top questions about digital media
When I started to figure out the world of copywriting, although I have levels of experience, I decided to use the Quora Platform. This helped me improve in the world of copywriting, especially with the shorter pieces of content which can further help the end-user.
This platform seemed like it would be more personable, and answering questions on the sectors in which I know would increase the potential of me learning something new and also hopefully helping others.
From the questions I’ve compiled from Quora, I’ve answered some questions surrounding social media marketing and the ways to improve your efforts in marketing:
This is important as you always want to continue your education and knowledge.
Why doesn’t Instagram make links (URLs) in captions and comments actionable?
The main reason that URLs aren’t clickable is that Instagram, under Facebook Inc, they want people to stay on their platform. This is important for the monetisation of their platform, if there are more people on the website & app, they can track your data, and use that to sell you advertising.
The reason Instagram let some people do swipe up on Instagram Stories is that they know they need to let people go to external channels and websites. But there is one catch! You need to have over 10,000 followers on Instagram to be able to do swipe-ups on Instagram stories.
But, for people and organisations who don’t have 10,000 followers, there are alternative methods to promote your ventures.
Here are two methods to link your profiles, without 10,000 followers:
- The most popular way to use links is to put the link onto your profile, anyone can click-through on that link, providing that your profile is public. Through this, you can use apps such as linktree to be able to compile multiple links into one.
- On IGTV, you can add links to your profile bio when on the application, but the downside to this is that I don’t know anyone with the IGTV app, resulting in me thinking it isn’t very popular. If it isn’t too popular, not many people are going to click on the link.
This means that you’ve got two places where people can click out to services/products you’re promoting. Through their link bio, there are a lot of people using external link-based services to show multiple links they want to promote.
Then in stories, promote something directly based on what they’re showing in a recent Instagram post shared to your story.
At the end of 2021 with the recent update within Instagram stories, you can use the sticker to be able to link to a website externally from Instagram. This means that if you have something to promote or share contextually towards posts you’ve done or stories, you can externally share posts.
How do I get a large following on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube?
Have you decided that you want to become more popular on social media? Are you wanting to become a social media influencer?
Firstly, if you’re trying to pursue a career being a social media influencer, good luck. It is really hard to get into that career, just because of how saturated the market is, so internship and volunteering for companies is always a good option to be able to learn marketing skills.
But this is the main factor from this, regardless of whether you go for a marketing career or just want to do your own thing within content creation on social media, you need to enjoy it. This is important because of the main factors of the compounding effects with consistency within your content pieces.
The best social media influencers are marketers.
Either way, here are a few ways to gain a large following on social media. Even if you don’t gain the largest following, you can gain that extra few followers.
Twitter:
- Use fewer hashtags:
When using hashtags on Twitter you should use two or fewer hashtags. When using more than 2 hashtags, your engagement drops by an average of 17%.
Within your Twitter copy, try and integrate the hashtags within the text organically, otherwise, the hashtags will look forced and put people off engaging with that specific piece of content.
Instagram:
- Use different sources of data:
Using Instagram insights or website analytics will help you improve who your audience is and to be able to build your profile around them to maximise engagement and the important metrics to be able to increase leads and possible conversions.
Depending on the Instagram tools you use, you can see what time and data to upload, which are the most relevant and best hashtags to use and other important information to use. For organic Instagram, you can use the Facebook and Instagram creator studio, to be able to see the important metrics and data for improving the chances of clickthrough.
YouTube:
- Algorithm:
The main objective for building a growing YouTube channel is a great thumbnail, title and tags.
This includes tags that surround your content that will improve your rankings in the YouTube algorithm. If your thumbnail isn’t matching and somewhat clickbait, then no one is going to discover your content.
How many likes are needed on Instagram to earn 1000$ every month?
Earning money is dependant on more variables than likes to monetise social media.
It doesn’t work in the way of getting 10,000 likes you will receive $1000 from Instagram.
Nobody gets money from Instagram directly. Firstly, if you do it’s to promote Instagram, which is unlikely. Also, if you do, that’s a pretty good CPM and I’ll need to learn a few things from you.
It is either through brands or pushing your audience to purchase something on external websites.
But there are a few risks to Influencer Marketing. One of them is Influencer fraud, so how can you prevent yourself from being caught up in the act of Influencer Fraud?
Here are a few ways to detect influencer fraud:
- Spikes of followers: If an individual or brand’s account has a huge jump in their follower count then they are probably buying followers.
- Engagement vs follower count:
– If an account has lots of followers but they are not getting much engagement as likes or comments, then they are probably buying followers.
– On the other hand, if the account has lots of engagement in likes or comments but not as many followers then they are probably buying an engagement.
Can someone tell if I am looking at their Instagram?
No, as long as you don’t interact with anything on the Instagram page such as:
- Follow their page
- Accidently message them
- Like or comment on an image/video.
- Interact with an Instagram Story
- Watch IGTV
If you do interact with their profile, but you un-do that action, they won’t get a notification.
This is because they will know you have either been on their page and interacted with what they have uploaded or seen it on your feed if you already follow them.
